Whatever your reasons for opening the door; it's too late to change your mind. One footstep in was all it took and you've arrived elsewhere. Your world shutting behind you in the sound of a click. Turning around reveals that door is gone.

Vanished.

The white, blue light on the other side of the door was near blinding. But the warmth from the light wasn’t enough to burn or be uncomfortable. Strangely, the weather seemed perfectly fine, when it was possible for eyes to adjust to the new sky.

And the sky was everywhere. Above, around, and below you. The door, that door, a mystery to draw you in. No apparent answers were found, unless you could count the soft steps of clouds under your feet.

Not heaven though, since you were dropping at an alarming rate. Falling?

Not quite that either.

Just descending.

But the ground was much farther away than the people around you were. A green valley, surrounded by forests and mountains, that was your eventual destination. The others falling with you, were probably looking as confused too. Floating down to the ground from points in the sky. A good thing that it hadn’t been a completely clear morning in Averde.

Ready to greet you, with feet planted firmly on the earth, there were two late adolescent looking people, waiting. One boy and one girl. Their expressions welcoming, but with a hint of worry.

...as people continue to walk down from the clouds, two large birds begin to take notice of this opportune snack time.

"Crap, crap, crap." Which could have sounded like a nope, nope, nope if anyone was paying attention.

A tall gangly looking young man with slightly shaggy looking hair is trying to get out of the direct line of sight of the Arrowhawk. As he does that he tries to gather up the local magic, which he calls the Veil, so he can try casting a spell.

[action: attempt to cast, fail]

Rick splutters as the arcane energy slips from his grasp. "What? This.... This isn't like the Veil I'm used to."

Attention was currently a commodity found in short supply for anything other than the large death birds. But even so, Wyatt managed a quick smile at the newest Outworlder.

"Archane spell failure?" Yeah that was kind of a thing here.

Probably why the fighter still preferred to use the old fashioned weapons. This time, he's going to throw a dagger at one of the birds. Maybe not the wisest of moves, but with a little luck...

{action: attack arrowhawk with thrown dagger, rolled 4.}

It's a hit, though not a deep one. The dagger falls back down the the ground as the angry hawk screeches again, this time pointedly at Wyatt, and the sign and other man in between them. Watch your head, Chicken Brent, this bird is making a dive with claws outstretched.

[action: defensive ducking, rolled 6!}

Rolling out of the way, Wyatt grins at winding up closer to the newcomer.

"Welcome to Averde, friend."

Brent, caught up in the moment of a new arrival and Wyatt's awesome dodge a roll a throw, stares a moment too long. All of a sudden the demon pigeon is rounding theon them again, and boy does it look like it is angry. Gulping, he does the only thing he can think of. He plants his feet firmly and holds the sign up, point at the creature's swooping form.

[Actions taken: change stance, passive stab - 4]

It is a hit. Unfortunately, like Wyatt's, not deep enough to bring the creature down completely. Worse yet, it bowled Brent over and now he is staring down the beak of a very dangerous, if at least grounded, bird.

"Buckaw, dude?" He says with a weak smile.

The other welcoming pleasentries will have to wait.

It looks like the Chicken could use a little help.

Running up from behind, Wyatt uses the only thing currently left to him, his small shield. He readies himself for impact.

[action: rush towards arrowhawk; action: bash into with shield. rolled 5.]

The young Ingress volunteer hits into the bird, taking the brunt of resistance with his shoulder but knocking the Arrowhawk down flat.

"Okay, run. I think."
